WD-40 is well known for displacing moisture, controlling corrosion and assisting in cleaning, with lubrication being its most popular use. We’ve been taking a look into more ways to make use of your household and workplace solution, with some that may come as a surprise to even WD-40’s biggest fans!

1: Remove their artwork from the walls

Do your children run their crayons and markers along the white walls? Spraying WD-40 on the wall and wiping off with a clean rag should completely erase the scribbles. Perform a quick test on wallpaper before spraying.

  1. Clean the toilet

Spraying WD-40 into the toilet bowl can remove limescale stains. Just spray, scrub with the toilet brush and flush the remnants.

  1. Kill weeds for good

Spraying the solution across the weeds should cause them to weaken and die, meaning that you can then pull them out from the root. In theory, this should mean it won’t return!

  1. Loosen that stubborn zip

Zip stuck in one position and refusing to budge? Spray your WD-40 directly on the zipper and move it up and down on the teeth a few times.

  1. Clean your hands of sticky substances

Work with glue, oil or other staining fluids? Next time you finish a project, spray your hands with WD-40. Rubbing them together should fully remove any leftover glue, etc.

  1. Remove Chewing Gum or Sweets

Next time your child gets something sticky welded to their hair, spray WD-40 on the problem area and comb through. Post rinse, there should be no trace of the offending sweets.

  1. Protect your feet from the elements

An alternative way to waterproof your shoes and boots? Give the tops and sides of your footwear a coat of WD-40 before leaving the house. Acting as a barrier to moisture seepage, the solution should keep your feet and socks completely dry.

  1. Banish the bugs

Spray WD-40 on places where spiders and other insects may get in (i.e., windowsills and door frames) to stop them from entering your space. In the summer months, keep wasps from building nests under the eaves of your house by misting WD-40 into them.

  1. Clean carpet stains

Carpet stains don’t stand a chance: spray the stains and wait a couple of minutes, then add your usual carpet cleaner. Alternatively, follow the application of WD-40 with a sponge and warm, soapy water.

  1. Keep dead bugs off your car grille

Covering the front of your car grille in WD-40 prior to your journey will help the bugs just slide straight off, rather than cementing themselves to your newly cleaned car. If a few bugs do manage to get stuck, they will be easy to wipe off later.
