Q: What types of fence boards do you offer?

A: We stock a full range of fencing boards for building close board and feather edge fences. Options include:

• Treated timber fence boards - available in brown or green treatment for longer life.

• Feather edge boards - ideal for close board fencing, offering solid privacy and strength.

• Composite fence boards - a low-maintenance alternative to timber, resistant to rot and insects.

All boards are available in standard sizes to suit common fence post spacings.

Q: What sizes do fence boards come in?

A: Our standard timber fence boards come in widths of around 100 mm and lengths from 1.2m (4ft), up to 1.8m (6ft). Thickness is typically around 22mm for feather edge boards.

Q: How many fence boards do I need for close board fencing?

A: For close board fencing, allow about 10–12 boards per metre, depending on how much overlap you want. If you’re unsure, give us your measurements and we’ll help you work it out.

Q: What size nails or screws should I use for fence boards?

A: Use 50–65mm galvanised nails for fixing feather edge boards to rails. If using screws, go for exterior-grade screws at least 50mm long to give a solid fixing without splitting the timber.

Q: What is close board fencing?

A: Close board fencing is a traditional type of fence built from overlapping vertical boards fixed to horizontal fence rails. It’s known for strength, privacy, and versatility on uneven ground. It’s often used when a long-lasting, sturdy boundary is needed.
