Q: What are the differences between hardwood and treated timber decking?

Q: Is decking timber treated?

A: Yes, all of our timber decking is treated to help protect against moisture, rot, and insect attack. This treatment gives wooden decking a longer lifespan and makes it suitable for year-round outdoor use.

Q: What is the best treatment for timber decking?

A: Use a good-quality decking oil or wood preservative to nourish the timber and protect against the elements. Apply it to clean, dry wood once a year to keep your wooden deck in top shape.

Q: How much is timber decking?

A: Our timber decking boards start from around £7.20 per board, but prices range depending on the size, material and finish. It’s always best to work out your total area in square metres and calculate from there. If in doubt, our decking calculator can help you figure out how much you need. 

Q: How much is timber decking per m²?

A: Timber decking typically costs between £20–£40 per m², depending on the board width and spacing. Don’t forget to factor in decking screws and any accessories like steps, spindles and rails.

Q: How wide is timber decking?

A: Most of our wooden decking boards are around 120mm to 150mm wide. Always check the specific board dimensions on the product page to ensure you’re ordering the right size for your project.

Q: Can I put a fire pit on a wooden deck?

A: You can, but it’s important to use a heat shield or fire-resistant base to protect your timber deck from heat damage or stray embers. Never place fire pits directly onto decking timber without taking the proper precautions.

Q: Can you jet wash wooden decking?

A: Yes, jet washers can be used to clean wooden decking, but you’ll need to use a wide fan setting and keep the pressure low to avoid damaging the surface of your deck. High pressure can gouge or raise the grain of decking timber, so always test a small area first and use controlled, even strokes to get the best results without damaging the wood. A stiff brush and decking cleaner are often just as effective and more gentle on the boards.
